Alyssa Rose (Lapinel), CPDT-KA: Canine Training and Behavior Specialist
Alyssa with her dog, Kodi.
Certified by the Council for Professional Dog Trainers, AKC Citizen Evaluator, a Professional Member of The Association of Pet Dog Trainers, certified as a Canine Training and Behavior Specialist through Triple Crown Dog Training Academy's intensive program for professional dog trainers. (Triple Crown is now called Starmark Animal Behavior Center).
Alyssa took the first step in creating Legends Dog Training when she began studying behavior, learning and motivation in college in 2000. Four years later she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Psychology. She built upon this foundation as a counselor and case manager for children and adults diagnosed with psychiatric and emotional disorders (oppositional defiance, generalized anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, autism). In 2008 she made another life changing decision: she took a summer hiatus to Alaska where she spent six months working in an animal sanctuary. She gave tours through the sanctuary and discussed behavioral tendencies of black bears, sitka deer, pacific salmon and bald eagles; all the while living on a small boat with her 90 lb Malamute mix, Kodi. It was towards the end of this summer that she first considered veering away from human mental health, and pursuing a career in animal behavior. By May 2009 she had made up her mind, she enrolled in Triple Crown's program for professional dog trainers, and headed to Texas to study under two internationally renowned trainers; Rob Dunn and Jessy Gabriel. At Triple Crown Dog Training Academy Alyssa learned about beginner and advanced obedience training, behavior modification, and canine sport work. The sport work included agility, search and rescue, scent detection, tracking and protection training.
After graduating from Triple Crown she began her dog training career at New York City's Biscuits and Bath, one of Manhattan's most prominent dog care facilities. Her certification awarded her a job as Head Dog Trainer and Behavior Consultant at two of Biscuits and Bath's uptown locations. She conducted behavior assessments, private lessons and group classes for the upper west side and upper east side facilities. It was in 2010 that she established her own private business, Legends Dog Training. In May of 2011 Alyssa and Legends moved to San Diego, California. Legends has allowed her to focus on her greatest passion: behavioral training. Alyssa creates programs for dogs with fear, anxiety, impulsivity and aggression. Alyssa utilizes a specialized approached to behavior modification that focuses on establishing a base which can be systematically built upon. The goal in this training is to minimize stress, improve communication and build a stronger relationship between people and their dogs. Alyssa currently resides in San Diego, California with her husband, Brian, her 6 y/o stepson, Ami, and their two dogs, Fritz and Beatrix. Fritz is a 7 y/o basset hound, labrador retriever mix. Beatrix is a 3 y/o Jack Russell Terrier mix. Brian, Ami, Fritz and Beatrix are all key members of the Legends Dog Training team. When not training they are either hiking, camping or looking for lost pirate treasure.
